Standard Machining Steps for Plastic Pipe Mold Base
  1. Material Cutting
    Use a bandsaw to cut standard-sized steel plates into rough blanks of the required dimensions.

  2. Rough Milling (Face and Side Milling)
    On a gantry milling machine, mill the six faces of the plates (primarily the reference faces) to ensure flatness and achieve the basic outer dimensions, removing most of the machining allowance.

  3. Drilling Lifting Holes/Process Holes
    Drill screw holes (lifting holes) and reference pin holes on a drilling machine for handling, positioning, and subsequent processes.

  4. Rough Cavity Machining (Roughing)
    Use a rough cavity machine or gantry milling machine to preliminarily machine the mold cavity, guide pin/bushing holes, return pin holes, and other structural features, leaving a uniform finishing allowance for all areas.

  5. Heat Treatment (Quenching and Tempering)
    [Critical Step] Perform quenching and high-temperature tempering on the roughly machined plates. This eliminates internal stresses from rough machining, homogenizes the steel, and improves its overall mechanical properties (strength, toughness), providing a stable material condition for subsequent finishing.

  6. Precision Grinding of Reference Faces
    After heat treatment, the plates may experience slight deformation. This step involves grinding the two most critical reference faces (typically A and B faces) on a precision grinder to achieve extremely high flatness, surface finish, and accurate thickness, providing the sole and precise reference for all subsequent finishing operations.

  7. Precision Milling
    Using the ground reference faces for positioning, perform precision milling on a gantry or high-precision milling machine to finish the four sides of the mold cavity, parting surfaces, shut-offs, slider slots, etc., ensuring perpendicularity, parallelism, and dimensional accuracy meet drawing requirements.

  8. CNC Machining
    For complex shapes that cannot be completed by precision milling (e.g., free-form surfaces, deep cavities, 3D runner systems, lifter holes, etc.), use computer programming to perform precision milling on a machining center (CNC).

  9. Drilling and Tapping
    Drill all screw holes, ejector pin holes, waterline holes, guide pin holes, etc., and perform tapping. This is typically done on a high-precision radial drill or CNC drilling machine.

  10. Bench Work
    Perform manual finishing, including chamfering all edges, deburring, marking part numbers in specified locations, assembling standard components such as guide bushings and pins, and conducting waterline flow tests.

  11. Final Inspection
    Use measuring tools such as coordinate measuring machines (CMM), height gauges, and calipers to fully inspect all critical dimensions, hole positions, flatness, etc., ensuring compliance with the design drawings.

  12. Assembly and Packaging
    Clean all components, including front and rear mold cavities, guide pins, return pins, ejector plates, etc., assemble them, apply anti-rust oil, fasten securely, and package for shipment.
