Standard Machining Steps for Communication Waterproof Housing Mold Base
  1. Material Cutting
    Use a bandsaw to cut standard-sized steel plates into required blank pieces.

  2. Rough Milling (Face Milling and Edge Milling)
    On a gantry milling machine, mill the six surfaces (mainly the reference faces) of the plate flat and process the basic outer dimensions, removing most of the machining allowance.

  3. Drilling Lifting Eye Holes / Process Holes
    Drill screw holes (for lifting eyes) and reference pin holes on a drilling machine for handling, positioning, and subsequent processes.

  4. Rough Cavity Machining (Roughing)
    Use a rough cavity machine or gantry milling machine to initially machine mold cavities, guide pin/bush holes, ejector pin holes, etc., leaving uniform finishing allowances for all areas.

  5. Heat Treatment (Quenching and Tempering)
    [Key Process]Perform quenching and high-temperature tempering on the rough-machined plates. This eliminates internal stresses from rough machining, homogenizes and improves the material’s comprehensive mechanical properties (strength, toughness), and ensures stable material conditions for subsequent finishing.

  6. Precision Grinding of Reference Surfaces
    Heat treatment causes slight deformation. This process uses a precision grinder to grind the two most critical reference surfaces (usually A and B faces) to achieve high flatness, surface finish, and precise thickness, providing a single, accurate positioning reference for all subsequent finishing.

  7. Precision Milling
    Using the ground reference surfaces for positioning, perform precision milling on a gantry or precision milling machine for the mold cavity’s four sides, parting surfaces, sealing edges, slider slots, etc., ensuring perpendicularity, parallelism, and dimensional accuracy meet drawing requirements.

  8. CNC Machining
    For complex shapes that cannot be achieved by precision milling (e.g., irregular surfaces, deep cavities, 3D runner systems, angled lifter holes), use computer programming to perform precision milling on a machining center (CNC).

  9. Drilling and Tapping
    Drill all screw holes, ejector pin holes, waterline holes, guide pin holes, etc., and perform tapping. This is typically done on high-precision radial drills or CNC drilling machines.

  10. Bench Work
    Perform manual finishing, including chamfering and deburring all edges, engraving part numbers in specified locations, assembling standard components like guide bushes and pins, and conducting water circuit flow tests.

  11. Final Inspection
    Use inspection tools such as CMMs, height gauges, and calipers to fully check all critical dimensions, hole position accuracy, and flatness, ensuring compliance with design drawings.

  12. Assembly and Packaging
    Clean and assemble all components, including front/rear mold bases, guide pins, return pins, and ejector plates. Apply anti-rust oil, secure fasteners, and pack for shipment.
