- Drilling of Lifting Holes/Process HolesHoles for screws (lifting holes) and reference pin holes are drilled on a drilling machine for handling, positioning, and referencing in subsequent steps.
- Rough Cavity Machining (Roughing)A roughing machine or gantry milling machine is used to preliminarily machine the mold cavity, guide pillar/bushing holes, return pin holes, and other structural features, leaving a uniform finishing allowance for all areas.
- Heat Treatment (Quenching and Tempering)Key Step – The roughly machined plate undergoes quenching and high-temperature tempering. This relieves internal stresses from rough machining, uniformly enhances the steel’s comprehensive mechanical properties (strength, toughness), and provides a stable material condition for subsequent finishing.
- Precision Grinding of Reference SurfacesAfter heat treatment, slight deformation occurs. This step involves grinding the two most critical reference surfaces (typically the A and B faces) on a precision grinder to achieve high flatness, surface finish, and accurate thickness, establishing a unique and precise positioning reference for all subsequent finishing operations.
- Finish MillingUsing the ground reference surfaces for positioning, the four sides of the mold cavity, parting surface, shut-off areas, slider slots, etc., are finish-milled on a gantry or precision milling machine to ensure perpendicularity, parallelism, and dimensional accuracy meet drawing requirements.
- CNC MachiningFor complex shapes that cannot be achieved by finish milling (such as freeform surfaces, deep cavities, 3D runner systems, angular pin holes, etc.), computer programming is used to perform precision milling on a machining center (CNC).
- Drilling and TappingAll screw holes, ejector pin holes, waterline holes, guide pillar holes, etc., are drilled, followed by tapping. This step is typically performed on a high-precision radial drill or CNC drilling machine.
- Bench WorkManual finishing is carried out, including chamfering all edges, deburring, engraving part numbers in specified locations, assembling standard components like guide bushings and dowel pins, and conducting waterline flow tests.
- Final InspectionAll critical dimensions, hole position accuracy, and flatness are fully inspected using tools such as coordinate measuring machines (CMM), height gauges, and calipers to ensure compliance with the design drawings.
- Assembly and PackagingAll components, including the front and rear mold cavities, guide pillars, return pins, and ejector plates, are cleaned, assembled, coated with anti-rust oil, fastened, and packaged for shipment.
